Get Local

Over these four days, you will experience the warm hospitality of northern Vietnam. The district of Da Bac is home to the Dao, Muong ethnic minority groups. These locals will welcome you into their homes and introduce you to the local culture. Get cosy over dinner, and traditional folk song and dance. Learn the local legends. Toast your host with locally made rice wine.

You’ll also have the chance to see Da Bac CBT’s work in action and understand the local development context. Learn how Vietnam’s largest hydroelectric dam has brought both power and hardship to the region, and visit our livelihood projects to see what we’re doing to help.

Trek with a Purpose

Our trekking routes take you off the beaten tourist path, through fertile valleys, rich bamboo forest, golden rice terraces, and local ethnic villages. From cliff sides, take in breath taking views of Vietnam’s iconic karst peaks jutting up from the sparkling waters of Hoa Binh Lake. During stays in the villages, trek through lush bamboo forests, enjoy a swim or kayak on the lake.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Hanoi – Ke Village (L, D)

Distance: 125 km by car

On the first day, we’ll be introduced to the Muong culture in Hoa Binh city and stay the night in a traditional Muong stilt house in Hien Luong commune. During construction of these houses, each element is considered carefully as they represent aspects of luck and prosperity, from the orientation the house faces, to the number of steps in the staircase.

08.00 : Depart from Ha Noi to Ke Village (110 km)

11.00 : Arrive at Ke Village, check in homestay and have lunch

13.30 : Visit homestay and discover Ke Village

16.30 : Participate in some water activities such as: kayaking, rafting, swimming

18.30 : Dinner at homestay and interact with local people Overnight at homestay

Day 2 : Ke Village – Sung Village (B, L, D)

Trekking distance: 18 km On the second day, we’ll arrive in 300 year-old Sung village. Here, we’ll witness the Dao tradition of brocade. Fabrics are dyed using naturally derived colours, and intricately designed and embroidered by hand. Coins attached as decoration to head scarves give the distinction of Dao Tien, or “Money Dao.”

08h30 : Transfer by car in 15 minutes , Trek through the forest

13.00 : Arrive in Sung village inhabited by Dao tribe

13.30 : Lunch at local house

14.30 : Visit local families and explore the village

19.00 : Dinner at homestay Chat with host Overnight in Sung village

Day 3 : Sung Village – Da Bia Village (B, L, D)

Trekking distance: 12 km On the third day of the trip, we’ll reach Da Bia (Rock Landmark) village – an area with a historical story behind its name: in 1960, after a three-day territorial debate between Tien Phong and Phong Phu communes, a rock fell of the mountain and stuck right at the borderline suggested by Tien Phong officers. The rock face can still be seen by passer-bys on boat, and the area was known as Da Bia from then on

08.30 : Visit the “Amazing Cave” in Sung Village and tea hill Trek to Da Bia village

12.00 : Lunch at Corn Hill

13.30 : Walk through bamboo forest to Da Bia Village

15.30 : Explore the village and participate some activites such as: Kayak, raft, swim

18.30 : Dinner at homestay

19.30 : Enjoy art performance Overnight in Da Bia village

Day 4 : Da Bia village – Mo Hem – Thung Nai – Hanoi (B, L)

Trekking distance: 12 km On the last day of the trip, we’ll reach Mo Hem village – a village with a beautiful landscape. This village is home of Muong people and this is the newest village at Da Bac CBT

07.30 : Breakfast at homestay

08h30 : Trek to Muc Village, then boat pick up to Mo Hem Village

12h00 : Lunch at homestay.

14.00 : Cruise by boat to Thung Nai

15.00 : Transfer to Hanoi by car

17.00 : Arrive in Hanoi
